Noticed a couple of time when he ran it thru the grears a smoke on the upshift. For a conventional engine, I would have said worn rings. I know the RX-8's burn some oil under normal use. Would not think they would blow smoke like that. Car had a non-stock exhaust - sounded good. Just wondering from those whom may know. I have never seen my smoke either when I am driving it or when I have been behind it when my wife was driving it.

Can an oil burp happen without an overfill? I'll take out the airbox and check the accordian tube this evening and see.

FrankenRex » Mon Jun 10, am Was it doing it when you were out on a 'hard drive' or from start up? Did it clear or does it persist? Is there oil on the air filter itself? Was it like a full on smoke-screen or just a little bit of blue smoke from the exhaust kinda like a start when it's really cold outside?
Realistically these questions plus a few more followup ones would likely need to be answered before any definitive conclusion could be drawn.

It first happened on startup after picking my son up and visiting my parents. My son lives on a steep incline and coming to the bottom of it I braked and immediatley saw a spce to pull out into traffic so I caned it, Been thinking last night that could have caused something.
There was a kind of minor rough idle for a minute the next time I came to a stop, I even commented on it. Next startup
