The plaster will change colour, lighten, as it dries but that is just surface. I had 3 walls and a ceiling done took 4 days in December to dry. Unfortunately there is no rule as such but generally after 2 to 3 days for a small room should be good but it's just a guide.
Post by trickdick » Sat Feb 17, am Thank you! PVA onto a newly plastered ceiling? Post by Richie » Fri Mar 09, am Hi guys Just wanted to add to this thread as I have spoken to a few plasterers in the last few days getting quotes and some of them have advised that I should coat the new ceiling with PVA before painting. They have told me that this will prevent cracking and provide a better surface to paint onto once its all dry Is this right, and of so, what strength of PVA and type should somebody use on newly plastered ceilings once they are dry?
Is it just regular PVA wood glue watered down? To what strength? When you've skimmed a ceiling how long do you wait before putting the artex on? Do you wait for the plaster to completely dry out or not? Actually whilst im on about timings, I wouldn't mind a few other things cleared up once and for all: 1. How long do you wait before skimming boards after sticking them using drywall adhesive? How long before skimming after using hardwall or bonding? And as the original post says, how long before artexing after skimming a ceiling?
Pug Well-Known Member. Why would you artex over a freshly skimmed ceiling anyway?????? Click to expand JamesG New Member. Artex is often considered outdated and removing it can be difficult. Another option is to plaster over the artex. Plastering over the artex is much harder than plastering over a normal surface such as plaster board or a surface that has previously been plastered.
This is how I skim over artex. How do you paint a textured ceiling with a roller? Paint the Ceiling If you're not going to paint the walls, apply painter's tape around the edges for a crisp line. First, moisten the roller with a wet towel to help the paint load. How do you seal Artex? In fact, sometimes this can help to make the material safer as it encapsulates the asbestos making it less likely to be disturbed.
How do you clean Artex walls? The best way to clean artex is with gentle suction. Use the soft brush attachment on your vacuum that sweeps as it sucks to gently tease dirt away. If the ceiling is really appalling and you have no choice but to use water, keep it as delicate as you can. Why does my ceiling looks patchy after painting? Painting over a dark color with a light color naturally requires more coats of paint. If you don't have enough paint on your roller, it can leave behind patchy areas.
